APA style has changed a bit since I was in college, so it was very helpful to go over all of the details that have to be included in papers. I learned more about headings and font style then I knew before, but the most helpful part of the tutorials was the section on referencing information you find on the internet. I am still not 100% sure I understand what a DOI is, as I have never had to cite an electronic book, but I am sure I can ask a classmate to help me out on that issue.
Another section of the tutorial that was helpful was writing without bias and being specific in your writing. I loved how they told you to write:
“at-risk children of dropping out of school instead of at-risk children”.
I guess I had not thought about how grouping together “at-risk children” could be biased and that being more specific about groups of people can help.
The website APAstyle.org is a great reference for anyone that has to write a paper.
