Geography Lesson: mapping the world with color

22 Sep

Color coding world maps

Longitude and Latitude, 5 Oceans, 7 continents, Cardinal Rose

This lesson was especially helpful for those students who are more artistic and can match geography locations with color.  These are all locations that the students will have to locate for the post-assessment test.  Ms. H. went slowly through each section with a certain color and often asked the class to turn-pair-share and see if anyone knew where the continents were, which lines are longitude and latitude (Lat is flat!) and where the oceans are located.  As they followed along, it was interesting to see how clear she made it for them where these major section of the world map were and didn’t overwhelm them with more information then they needed for this particular lesson.
